For a small village school, St Michaels’ has wonderful sports facilities – a hard court marked out for netball, tennis and small sided games, a field marked out with a football pitch, and a hall equipped for both gymnastics and dance.
We utilise our facilities to deliver a broad and balanced PE curriculum, with all children receiving two hours of physical activity every week. The programme is co-ordinated by a specialist PE teacher.
By the end of Key stage two all pupils will have taken part in gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming, football, hockey, high fives, tag rugby, tennis, cricket, rounders and athletics. In addition we make full use of our school grounds to incorporate outdoor learning throughout the curriculum and further enhance our provision with residential visits in years 5 and 6.
All our pupils are encouraged to attend extra-curricular sports activities which are delivered by school staff and sports companies. The programme varies from term to term, but has in the past included activities such as; dance, high fives, cricket, football, tag rugby and athletics.
We offer all our pupils the opportunity to take part in inter-school sports against our cluster primary schools, both competitive tournaments, and co-operative festivals.
Our children always represent us magnificently, playing with both skill and exemplary sportsmanship.
